Jim Kerr backs Doherty in new media venture.
– The Sunday Times
Jim Kerr Simple Minds’ front man is believed to be investing in a new media company being launched this week by millionaire Internet businesswoman Jacqueline Doherty writes Terry Murden.
Doherty was the creative driving force behind entrepreneur Chris Gorman’s Reality Solutions which was launched in a former Renfrewshire farmhouse in 1998. Doherty is said to have received up to £3m from the £35m sale of Reality Scotland’s most successful internet start-up to Great Universal Stores (GUS) last year. She is now ready to launch a new company called 2Fluid an e-commerce and web-design business. Kerr is putting an undisclosed sum into the venture.
Sources say that he has confidence in Doherty’s talents and rates them higher than many others in the sector. He is likely to bring a number of key contacts particularly from the music world into the business in which he is likely to take a small equity stake.
Gorman recently revealed in the Sunday Times he is preparing to leave GUS to start another business venture with some of his £25 million fortune. He is looking to get back into the retail sector and may invite GUS and fellow entrepreneur Tom Hunter in as investors.
